They say people drown because they give up. They simply do not believe that they can stay above the water. They believe they are powerless. And yet you hear about people surviving days afloat at sea. Why do we lose our power? Why do we give up our fight?
We all have times when we are overwhelmed by the water. We slip under the waves, allowing the water to cover our mouths. We choke as the water comes in – that automatic reflex within us that clings to Life. We fight. We struggle. We try again.
There are those of us that believe that Life is about happiness. Life is about forgetting the struggles and ignoring the pain. These people swim, not from some innate power but from an ignorance about the depths below them. They paddle about in shallow waters and when the waves hit, they truly drown.
Those that have power and those that find power look below and see that the clarity at the top of the water cannot hide the murky depths. There are dangers below, but there is richness. There is treasure. And those that have power see the waves for what they are – a storm that rages. And passes.
Maybe you feel powerless this morning. Maybe the struggles from the surface and the fear from below have overwhelmed you. Today I tell you to not give up your fight – whatever that is.
Maybe you fight for your marriage. Maybe you fight for your child with a learning “disability” (or as I like to call it “difference”). Maybe you fight for your own issues that threaten your Self and your relationships. Maybe you fight to stay afloat in a horrible economy that has had you unemployed for months with no relief in sight. Maybe you fight a disease that threatens to take your health and even your Life. Maybe you fight to just treat others with Love and Respect when you are surrounded by people that hate.
Whatever your fight, Fight. The waves will stop. The sun will shine. And for a little while, you will have a strength that you NEVER could have obtained if you would not have fought to stay afloat.
And when you spend your entire morning crying, a little concealer under the eyes works wonders.
Love.
