Kids and pools and diving boards. . . . diving boards are not as commonplace now. Everyone’s afraid of risk. Liability is such an issue that playgrounds don’t have swingsets. . . . sigh. I remember when you could break your arm and you just got taken to the doctor. . . . I digress. . . .
Do you remember doing nothing but jumping off of the diving board? Over and over and over. In the pool. Out as fast as you could – to get back in line to jump again. Sure everybody did tricks – but the main goal was hitting the bottom as fast as you could – just so you could propel yourself out to the top as fast as you could. I remember jumping as hard as I could off the board to see how fast I could get to the bottom – because the faster you hit the bottom, the faster you reached the top. Over and over for hours until Mom made you get out and take a break, already.
WHY do we fear the bottom? WHY do we even hate it? WHY do we wish that it somehow wouldn’t happen? This is Life – we have to hit the bottom to go back up. And it’s this endless cycle that just repeats itself. WHY worry about going down when you KNOW that you will go back up?
DIVE IN. Just dive in. Sometimes it seems like it takes forever to get to the bottom. Remember the “really deep” pools? The ones where you would hang off the side to see if you could just push yourself to the bottom and it seemed like you would never reach it? You will. The bottom is there. Remember it is not a destination – it is simply a springboard to get back to the top. It is just another way to get a breath of fresh air, feel gloriously successful and jump out only to dive in once again - to the bottom.
